Background Note
The Fifth Session of the Governing Council of UNAPCAEM will be held in the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Bangkok, Thailand from 14-15 December 2009. During the 65th Commission Session of ESCAP held in April 2009, along with the host country China, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Viet Nam were elected to the Governing Council of UNAPCAEM for the period 2009-2012.
During the 5th Governing Council meeting, government representatives from the nine countries will review and approve the Centre’s work report of 2009 and the work plan for 2010, and endorse the report of the fifth session of the Technical Committee of the Centre held from 14-16 October 2009 in Los Baños, the Philippines. Delegates will also provide direction for the Centre’s programme of work for the next biennium 2010-2011. Administrative and financial status of the Centre will also be reviewed.
UNAPCAEM is a subsidiary body of ESCAP located in Beijing, China. UNAPCAEM is striving to become a centre of excellence in promoting technology transfer for food security and sustainable agriculture across the Asia and Pacific region, with a focus on three cluster programmes, namely, agricultural engineering, food chain management, and agro-based development and trade. |
